Mr Sam Harris founded Harris Walton Lifting Gear Ltd in 1959. After working for several companies in the Black Country before, during and after World War Two he started his own company Harris Lifting & Shipping Tackle which he ran for several years. As the company grew so did the boardroom disagreements over stock levels. Sam was a great believer in stocking large quantities of the normal run of the mill items in order to supply customers instantly, but as the board strongly disagreed Sam decided to start a new company.

His next step was to enter into partnership with Mr. Larry Walton and so Harris Walton was born. The company grew and prospered over the next few years, until Larry Walton left due to ill health. Harris Walton became a family business and remained so until the death of Mr. Harris in 1999. The company still runs on the basis of holding large stocks of popular items.
